Thematic Content Strategy
MONTHLY THEMATIC APPROACH
We take a structured approach towards the General Paper curriculum.
Each month - students will cover 1 Theme & 2 Sub-Themes.
Issues within each sub-theme will be extensively covered and explored such that potential examination questions will be discussed in class.
An in-depth analysis of the past year GP papers have been done by our team to identify high probability topics & issues to cover during lessons
SYNERGIES BETWEEN CONTENT APPLICATION & SKILLS ACQUISITION
Weekly GP tuition sessions are not simply “content download” lessons where students learn content without the opportunities for applying what they’ve learnt.
In each month, there will be 2 content discussion lessons, 1 essay-writing lesson & 1 comprehension lesson.
Within the 4 lessons monthly - the 2 sub-themes will be explored in a comprehensive manner.
Skills Acquisition
ESSAY WRITING
As the SEAB website puts it - we will teach you to express an “informed, critical, creative and relevant response”
An “informed & relevant” response will require students to be engaged in relevant content - a good half of our curriculum.
The “critical & creative” response will require students to be well versed in writing skills. We will cover essay writing as part of our core curriculum.
COMPREHENSION
The A Level GP Comprehension section requires students to
“comprehend, explain, infer, evaluate & summarize”
These are part of a set of distinctive skills that needs to be purposefully learnt.
We will cover these skills in the “Comprehension” part of our curriculum.

At ETG - we provide 1-1 private home tuition classes based on our effective Economics programme and yet customized to the individual student’s needs. Senior Tutors (who have spent at least 3 years understudying Mr. Toh) from our Academics Team will travel to your residence for the weekly 1-1 sessions.
Customized 1-1 Lessons for You
Students who are under our 1-1 tutoring will also receive access to weekly ongoing onsite/Zoom group classes, hard copy materials and have access to our recorded video lessons on the Learning Management System.
ACCESS TO WEEKLY CORE GROUP CLASSES FLEXIBLY VIA ONSITE / ZOOM
Students taking 1-1 tutoring will also be given access to ongoing weekly CORE/CORE+/Supplement classes - they can attend these classes either via making an onsite class booking / Zoom livestream or watching recorded video lessons. All hard copy materials for the term will also be issued to students on 1-1 tutoring.
4 X 1.5 HOURS EVERY MONTH - PRIVATE TUTORING SESSION WITH A SENIOR TUTOR.
By default - students opting 1-1 tutorial will fix a weekly slot with our Senior Tutors.
Alternatively - students may also pick to flexibly arrange the sessions with our tutors (you can request for more lessons nearing examination season - subject to availability)
Through these 1-1 sessions, our tutors will provide feedback to students on their homework, go through key mistakes. Students can also take the time to clarify on conceptual misunderstandings.
CUSTOMISED TO EACH STUDENT’S NEEDS.
The 1-1 Premium+ programme is designed to ensure that students benefit from the regular structured programming that the ETG programme provides to all our students but also help students who may require weekly 1-1 help.
Parents may also request for an update on their child’s progress at anytime.

Trouble with understanding content?
STUDENT PAIN POINT #1 - CANNOT UNDERSTAND ABSTRACT CONCEPTS
There are some concepts that students specifically struggle at. Many IB students struggle with Market Structure and concepts relating to costs / revenues diagrams.
Some find trouble doing mathematical calculations for elasticities or for firm theory.
STUDENT PAIN POINT #2 - UNDERSTAND BUT CANNOT APPLY AT EXAMINATIONS
At times, you nod in lectures / tutorials almost as if to signal that you understand what your lecturer/tutor is teaching. Then when translating these concepts you supposedly understand at an essay or case study question - you unexpectedly flunk the test. This implies that perhaps your understanding does not translate to exam application.
At ETG - Content learning is simplified
During content lessons, we cover all essential aspects of the curriculum. Adopting a fun & succinct teaching method, Mr. Toh often breaks down even the most difficult & complex concepts for easy understanding, and shares useful anecdotes or metaphors to help students internalize and remember the necessary content
APPLICATION OF CONCEPTS TO SINGAPORE & THE REAL WORLD
The ETG Curriculum has a strong focus on giving students a firm understanding on the application of Economic concepts to Real-World contexts. We believe this is essential to inculcate critical thinking skills, and is the key for students to write strong responses to both the Extended Response and Policy Paper.
From providing contextualized examples to Economic concepts (e.g. Moral Hazard when it comes to Medishield Life), to deepening students’ understanding how Economic policies differ across contexts (e.g. the gradual appreciation of the Singapore dollar via the 'BBC' framework to achieve price stability), we incorporate Real-World examples in every lesson.
