PLAYCLUB WITH ENRICHMENT FOR 2 YRS AND OLDER

Learning is based on the Montessori Concept, through guided self- discovery and concrete hands-on approach. There will be an emphasis on confidence, independence and development of concentration using Montessori materials and the work- cycle. The child will refine his senses using Montessori materials, practical life and sensorial equipment. Other activities will include circle time, singing, stories, rhymes, music and movement. Our students are involved in science experiments, thematic studies, art and craft, show and tell. By these, our children will gain interests and awareness of the world around them. Social skills, grace and courtesy are encouraged.

English: The child will be introduced to sounds, phonics, reading programmes, grammar, comprehension and creative writing. Once every 3 months, the children go out for an excursion as part of the learning experience.

Mathematics: Maths is gradually and progressively introduced as part of the Montessori method, from concrete to abstract, from simple to difficult. The programme will help the child to build strong foundations in mathematical concepts.

Chinese: This is taught regularly every week as part of the sessions, in an incremental manner, through learning basic writing strokes, word recognition, sentence construction, reading and games, with emphasis also placed on verbal skills.

Each child will be assessed individually and learning will be paced accordingly.

ENRICHMENT CLASSES FOR PRE-PRIMARY

These classes are taught in modules over a 3 year period. These are progressive in nature, and are designed to bring your child to the level of academic competency that will ease his/her transition into Primary One. A full year comprises 4 modules. The first three modules will comprise 10 once-a-week sessions while the fourth will comprise 17 once-a-week sessions.

ENGLISH

An early start to the programme has its advantages. This will help the child to read and encourage the child to cultivate good reading habits. The course is designed to enable the child to develop the appropriate level of English language skills so that he/she can cope with English at entry into Primary school education. English will be introduced through working with Montessori and other concrete materials, from a concrete to abstract manner. A comprehensive reading scheme is used, which includes phonics, phonetics and phonograms. The child is also introduced to language usage, grammar, comprehension and sentence construction. Once the child has reached a level of competency, creative writing will be introduced to enable the child to develop a head start and confidence in expressing his thoughts, and further enhance his language skills.

MATHEMATICS

The course is designed so as to enable the child to have the capacity and skill to handle Mathematics when he/she enters Primary One. Mathematics will be introduced through working with Montessori and other concrete materials. The child will be introduced to Mathematics concepts from concrete to abstract manner, instead of learning by rote. We teach the child to think.

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME FOR PRIMARY

Enrichment classes are available for P1 to P6 students in English Language and Mathematics. These will be taught on a modular basis, progressive in nature and designed to enhance competency and capability in these subjects.

A full year comprises 4 modules. The first three modules will comprise 10 once-a-week sessions while the fourth will comprise 17 once-a-week sessions.  Each session lasts 1.5hours (lower primary) or 2 hours (upper primary).

At the end of the year, after the second semester assessment, the students will also cover a programme of comprehension-book review.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND CREATIVE WRITING

A strong grasp of the English Language starts with a strong foundation in grammar and vocabulary. We believe that without a strong understanding of the grammatical rules, it will be difficult for a child to excel in the use of English.

Grammar parts will be introduced at every level in a systematic manner. Grammar and vocabulary will be reinforced through sentence construction, synthesis and transformation, cloze passage, comprehension and development of writing skills.

Creative writing skills will be cultivated using a systematic approach. Proper construction of sentences is emphasized. Descriptive words and phrases will be introduced early to emphasize the importance of writing descriptively.

MATHEMATICS

The course is designed with the current primary school syllabus as the basic framework. The child is taken through basic concepts first. With each topic, there will be accompanying exercises to ensure practice and familiarity with the concepts.  The students will then be progressively exposed to more challenging sums as well as thinking skill and heuristic type questions. Methods such as the use of model drawing, diagrams and tables, making a list, guess and check, looking for patterns, working backwards, using equations, making suppositions will be covered. Students will also be taught how to restate problems by simplifying the problem or solving part of the problem first. These are directed at preparing the child for PSLE.
